Lucknow, Feb 10: The polling for Uttar Pradesh elections has begun on Thursday. The first of seven-phase polls began at 7 a.m. in 58 Assembly constituencies across 11 districts in western Uttar Pradesh.
Shamli, Meerut, Hapur, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Agra, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Mathura are among the 11 districts where voting is taking place. Almost 2.27 crore people will use their right to vote.
On Thursday, 7.95 percent of eligible voters in Uttar Pradesh voted in the first phase of Assembly elections, till 9:30 a.m.
According to the Election Commission, voter turnout in the Mathura assembly seat was 8.23 percent, in Agra it was 7.64 percent, and in Bagpat it was 8.93 percent.
The Aligarh seat had 8.39 percent voter participation, while Gautam Buddha Nagar had an 8.07 percent turnout.
The voting will conclude at 6:00 pm today and is taking place at 25,849 polling stations and 10,766 polling centres.
