Lucknow, Jan 30: Former state minister and senior Samajwadi Party (SP) politician Shivcharan Prajapati joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) camp in Lucknow on Sunday, giving the party major boost just days before the start of important assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Along with Prajapati, several other leaders from Congress and Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) also joined the party.
Meanwhile, Nida Khan, the daughter-in-law of ittihad-e-Millat Council leader Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Lucknow on Sunday, ahead of the 2018 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Nida Khan, who earlier referred to Congress national secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as her sister, claimed that only under the BJP’s control Muslim women are secure in Uttar Pradesh.

“BJP’s fight against triple talaq was the turning point for supporting the party. The security given to women by the BJP government by making a law on triple talaq will be a big issue in the elections this time,” said Nida Khan, who is herself a triple talaq victim.
Nida Khan, taking a jibe at the Congress, said the party named its campaign ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon,’ but did little to ensure women’s safety.
Her father-in-law had joined the Congress 15 days prior, but she had always voted for the BJP. “This is because the BJP assured Muslim women’s emancipation,” she added.
Nida Khan’s BJP membership comes only days after SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav joined the party ahead of the assembly elections.
