New Delhi, Jan27: The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved the verdict in the matter of suspending the sentences of Gopal and Sushil Ansal, in connection to tampering of evidence in the Uphaar cinema tragedy case.
The hearing was taking place in front of Justice Subramonium Prasad’s single-judge bench. The case’s oral arguments came to a close today.
While reserving his decision, Justice Prasad noted that the order would most likely be issued before February 23.
Notably, On June 13, 1997, a fire broke out at Uphaar Talkies located in Green Park, Delhi. In this incident, 59 people died and more than 100 people were injured. The film ‘Border’ was being shown in talkies that day. The transformer of the theater caught fire, which later spread to other parts as well. It was revealed in the investigation that there were no security arrangements in the talkies to combat fire tragedies.
