Washington, Feb 24: President Joe Biden said on Thursday after blasts were heard in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv that the US and its allies will respond in a united and decisive manner to “an unwarranted and unlawful strike by Russian armed forces” on Ukraine.

“Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. The world will hold Russia accountable,” he tweeted.

“The prayers of the world are with the people of Ukraine tonight as they suffer an unprovoked and unjustified attack by Russian military forces. President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring a catastrophic loss of life and human suffering,” he added.

Earlier, he also announced that he will meet his G7 counterparts.

“I’ll be monitoring the situation from White House this evening & get regular updates from my national security team. Tomorrow, I’ll meet with my G7 counterparts in the morning… We’ll coordinate with our NATO allies,” said US President Joe Biden.

The US President and allies issued a strong rebuke after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a military action in Ukraine on Thursday, claiming it was to defend people. Putin stated in a televised address that the move is in reaction to threats from Ukraine. He went on to say that Russia has no intention of occupying Ukraine. Putin claimed that the’regime’ in Ukraine is to blame for the killings.

Putin warned other nations that interfering with Russia’s actions will result in “consequences they have never seen.” He also accused the US and its allies of rejecting Russia’s demand that NATO not admit Ukraine and provide Moscow with security guarantees.
