Amritsar: A US military aircraft carrying 205 deported Indian nationals is expected to land at Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport in Amritsar on Wednesday afternoon. The flight was earlier scheduled for a morning arrival, but details regarding the individuals onboard remain undisclosed.

🔹 Deported Indians Mostly From Punjab & Nearby States

• The C-17 military aircraft is carrying 205 illegal immigrants, primarily from Punjab and neighbouring states.

• Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed that the state government will receive the deportees and has set up dedicated counters at the airport.

🔹 Punjab Govt Expresses Disappointment Over US Deportation

• Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal criticised the US government’s decision, stating that these individuals contributed to the US economy and should have been granted permanent residency instead of being deported.

• Dhaliwal pointed out that many Indians initially entered the US legally on work permits, which later expired, rendering them illegal immigrants.

🔹 Punjab Minister to Meet External Affairs Minister on Issue

• Dhaliwal announced plans to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar next week to discuss the impact of the deportations on Punjabis living in the US.

• He urged Punjabis to avoid illegal immigration routes and instead acquire skills and education to legally migrate and work abroad.

🔹 US Crackdown on Illegal Immigration Under Trump Administration

• Since Donald Trump’s return to office as US President, law enforcement agencies have launched a nationwide crackdown on illegal immigrants.

• A large number of Punjabis who entered the US through illegal means—often via “donkey routes”—are now facing deportation after paying lakhs of rupees to human traffickers.
