Dehradun, June 6: The dead bodies of 26 people were discovered at the bus accident site in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district by rescuers.

On Sunday evening about 7 p.m., a bus carrying 30 passengers to Yamunotri, including 28 pilgrims, crashed into a 250-meter-deep chasm. It was one of 30 pilgrim buses from the Panna area of Madhya Pradesh.

The search operation lasted until 2.30 a.m., according to rescuers, and the bus driver was one of the four injured, while his helper died in the accident.

Devendra Patwal, district disaster management officer (Uttarkashi), stated the rescue of bodies took some time due to the terrain and darkness.

Lalita Negi, a spokesman for the State Disaster Response Force, said their teams cooperated with the police and fire department for the rescue mission.

Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, offered a compensation package of one lakh rupees for those who perished and 50,000 rupees for those who were injured. Shivraj Singh Chauhan, his Madhya Pradesh counterpart, said the bodies would be flown at 2 p.m. in a tweet.
