Mumbai, Aug 22: Veteran movie producer Abdul Gaffar Nadidadwala passed away at the Breach Candy Hospital in Bombay earlier this morning, around 3 a.m.
Abdul, who was in his early 90s, passed away due to a number of illnesses, including diabetes and asthma.
Around 4 p.m. today, his funeral will start from his home in Barkat at JVPD Scheme. At the Irla Mosque, Abdul will be cremated. The filmmaker, also known by his stage name Gaffarbhai, has been in the business since 1984.
His debut project as a producer was the family drama Jhutha Sach, starring Dharmendra and Rekha. He next worked on the action thriller Lahoo Ke Do Rang and the comedy Hera Pheri, which went on to become a cult favourite in India and is regarded as one of the best comedies ever made in Indian cinema.
In addition, he produced a number of movies, including Watan Ke Rakhwale, Sone Pe Suhaaga, Shankar Shambhu, Lahoo Ke Do Rang, and Aa Gale Lag Jaa. He was also noted for having an intense love for his work and putting his whole heart into every undertaking he was involved with. When Empire Audio Centre first opened, Gaffarbhai and Yusuf Lakdawala were partners in the business.
