New Delhi, Feb 4: Padma Bhushan awardee and veteran playback singer Vani Jairam was found dead on Saturday at her Chennai home. She was 78.
Ahead of Republic Day 2023, the Indian government presented the singer with the Padma Bhushan honour.

Vani Jairam, a native Kalivani, came from a line of classically trained musicians. She started singing professionally in 1971 and continued for more than 50 years. She has earned state and national government prizes and performed in over 19 different languages.
Guddi was Vani Jairam’s big break in 1971. She collaborated with many renowned composers, including Sathyam, MS Vishwanathan, Chakravarthy, KV Mahadevan, and Ilaiyaraaja. She was known for recording over 10,000 songs in her career.
