New Delhi, Sept 13: Virat Kohli, the star Indian batter and owner of 211 million Instagram followers became the first cricketer to have 50 million Twitter followers.
The 33-year-old is the most popular cricket player in the world and the third most popular athlete on Instagram, after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo (450M and 333M, respectively). In addition, Kohli has more than 49 million Facebook fans, bringing the total number of people who follow him on social media to more than 310 million.
With two fifties and a century, Kohli returned to form during the just concluded Asia Cup 2022, finishing as India’s leading scorer and the competition’s second-highest run-getter. When he achieved the three-figure milestone in the dead rubber against Afghanistan, Kohli also snapped a lengthy international cricket century drought.
Kohli used to regularly score hundreds, but it took him 1019 days to reach his 71st tonne, which was also his first century in the game’s shortest format. Kohli also complimented team management and captain Rohit Sharma for allowing him to play whatever he wanted to during his century against Afghanistan.
Prior to the competition, Kohli had admitted that when he first began playing professional cricket, he went a month without touching his bat.
