New Delhi, Sept 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged for enhancing connectivity and turning India into a manufacturing hub at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. At the conference, PM Modi emphasised India’s innovative and start-up business models.
“The world is overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic. Several disruptions occurred in the global supply chain because of the COVID and Ukraine crisis. We want to transform India into a manufacturing hub,” said PM Modi.

At the group’s annual summit on Friday, PM Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and other leaders of the SCO discussed the security situation in the region and measures to improve commerce and connectivity.
“We are focussing on people-centric development model. We are supporting innovation in every sector. Today there are more than 70,000 start-ups and over 100 unicorns in our country,” he said.
PM Modi expressed his happiness that India has one of the largest economies in the world with one of the fastest rising economies. In addition, the prime minister declared that India would spearhead the creation of a new SCO working committee on traditional medicines.

According to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokeswoman Arindam Bagchi, Uzbekistan’s Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Ministers, the Governor of the Samarkand area, and other top officials welcomed PM Modi.
