Wasim Khan, the erudite Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has stepped down four months before the end of his contract. The board confirmed the news with a brief statement on Wednesday morning.
“Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed Wasim Khan has tendered his resignation as Chief Executive. As is the process, the BOG (Board of Governors) will meet later today to consider the matter,” said PCB official statement.
Wasim had begun his stint as the CEO of PCB in 2019, for a period of three years. Now because of his departure, the Chairman Ramiz Raja has called in the board of directors for a meeting on Wednesday.
“ We go to the World Cup now and where we had one team in our target, our neighbors India, They now add two more teams, New Zealand and England. So pick up the strength and develop a mindset that we are not going to lose because you didn’t do right with us and we will avenge that on the ground”, said Raja.
The exit of Khan (50) comes at a time of serious churning in Pakistan cricket which has suffered in the recent past from withdrawals of New Zealand and England, two series from which the PCB had major expectations. Notably, since the appointment of Ramiz Raja as the PCB chairman, there have been a number of resignations. Earlier this month Pakistan’s head coach and bowling coach had resigned from their roles.
