New Delhi, Aug 5: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government on Friday for rising tensions, unemployment, and inflation. He claimed that democracy is dying in India and that only a four-person dictatorship remains.

“We want to highlight the matter of price rise, unemployment. We want to discuss how society is being split up. We want to do it here and in Parliament as well. But we are not allowed to debate these matters in Parliament…we get arrested. This is the situation of today’s India,” Gandhi said.

“We’re witnessing the death of democracy. What India has built brick by brick, starting almost a century ago, is being destroyed in front of your eyes. Anybody who stands against this idea of onset of dictatorship is viciously attacked, jailed, arrested & beaten up,” he added.

The remarks were made before of widespread protests against rising unemployment and inflation against Congress on Friday. Additionally, the party planned a gherao of the Prime Minister’s residence. Senior party leaders and members of the Congress Working Committee, the party’s top decision-making body, were anticipated to take part in the protests.

Rahul Gandhi also claimed that the government was filling important institutions like the media and court with its own people.

“All the institutions in India are not independent. They all are under the control of one ideology. There is at least one person from RSS sitting in each institution,” he said.
