Jamshedpur, August 25: Unidentified body of a 20-year-old girl was found in a jungle under the Chakradharpur police station area in West Singhbhum district, about 100 km away from here today morning.

The girl’s body was almost bare, except the undergarments intact, suggesting that she was raped before being strangulated.

Moreover, the case seems to be that of rape and murder the body was found in a bush inside the jungle near Pusalota village in the Shilphota panchayat of the district.

The OC of Chakradharpur thana, Laxman, said that the initial investigation suggests it to be a case of rape and murder as the body was found inside a bush in semi-nude condition.

“The victim’s feature, especially complexion is quite different from the local girls. It appears that the assailants have dropped the body in the jungle having raped and murdered the girl somewhere else,” said the OC while talking to lagatar24.com.

The police officer said there was no mark of injury on the body and thus it is suspected that the girl might have been strangulated to death by the culprits.

According to the police officer, having recovered the body from the jungle, they kept it at an open convenient place for over two hours from 9 am.

“The purpose behind keeping the body in the open was to get it identified, but hundreds of local villagers turned up to the spot but no one could identify it. We have subsequently shifted the body to the Chaibasa Sadar Hospital for postmortem, ” he said.

The OC pointed out they will be able to detect the case only after the body is identified. He stated that the body will remain in the hospital morgue for the next 72 hours so that any claimant turns up there during this period.
