Ranchi, Feb 14: The failure of RIMS over various aspects including filling up of vacant posts, medicines unavailability, upgrading the facilities & infrastructure and delay in procurement of machines has angered Jharkhand High Court.
All the aspects have indicated the incompetence of the RIMS director Dr Kameshwar Prasad in the eyes of the Jharkhand High Court which was also reflected in the verbal statement of the court during the last hearing. “Merely changing advocates will not improve the situation of RIMS. Rather, its director and the style of working ought to be changed,” the court verbally observed when the RIMS management, after having been pulled up repeatedly, changed its advocate to argue its case.
Sources in RIMS said that there was a delay in the procurement of a CT Scan machine and other facilities like ECG and Cath labs, which was fulfilled after the intervention of the court.
“In a similar manner genome sequencing is also pending as well as the recruitment on the vacant posts still remains in the dormant phase,” sources said.
The court has continuously pulled up RIMS on various issues including the installation of genome sequencing and filling up vacant posts in the state-run medical college.
The faculty members at RIMS have also alleged that the director is merely completing his tenure while sitting on the highest honour at RIMS.
“Though the seats are vacant, still no procedure has been started to fill up the vacant posts. Moreover, the genome sequencing machine will be installed in the campus after the virus has receded from the state,” a faculty member at RIMS said.
Padma Shri awardee Dr Kameshwar Prasad took charge as the director of RIMS on the foundation day of Jharkhand in 2020, who himself did his MBBS from RIMS itself. Before joining RIMS he was associated with AIIMS-New Delhi for four decades.
After taking charge, he had said, “It’s greatly satisfying to take charge of the institute from where I studied, that too on the foundation day of Jharkhand. I will contribute to the best of my ability to take RIMS to new heights, with the blessings of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.”
