Mumbai, July 12: Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra on Tuesday expressed his support for Droupadi Murmu, the nominee of the NDA, while disregarding Yashwant Sinha, the candidate of the opposition.
While the Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Thackeray, has not yet made clear where it stands on supporting Murmu. Eknath Shinde, however, promised today that all MLAs would support Murmu as directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shiv Sena gave vague indications earlier in the day that it would support Murmu, but NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal dismissed any such rumour, saying the Uddhav Thackeray-led party hasn’t yet offered its support to anyone.
“Till now, Shiv Sena hasn’t extended its support to anyone regarding the Presidential elections. It is yet to make the final decision,” Bhujbal said.
Sanjay Raut, the party’s leader, stated today that there were conversations regarding Murmu at the meeting after Uddhav Thackeray convened one on July 11 and that backing Murmu does not imply backing the Bharatiya Janata Party.
