New Delhi, Nov 8:Women’s hockey team captain Rani Rampal and former Scientist at Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Dr Raman Gangakhedkar were conferred with Padma Shri Award 2020 on Monday.
Notably, Dr Raman Gangakhedkar is now a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) expert group tasked with probing the origins of COVID-19. Rani Rampal had led the Women’s hockey team in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
President Ram Nath Kovind is presenting the awards in the Rashtrapati Bhawan. As many as 119 Padma Awards are being presented by President Ram Nath Kovind. The list comprises seven Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri Awards.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar among others were also present on the occasion.
Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honour of India announced annually on the eve of Republic Day.
