New Delhi, Feb 1: The first Women’s Premier League (WPL) player auction is likely to take place on February 11 or 13. The BCCI will make a final decision this week regarding the date and location of the maiden Women’s Premier League (WPL) player auction.
The five newly constituted franchises would have had just under a month to be ready for the inaugural WPL season, which ESPNcricinfo predicts would last from March 4 to 24. The BCCI had intended to convene the auction on February 6 in Mumbai.
However, the BCCI was compelled to alter that plan for two reasons.
First off, the majority of the five WPL franchise owners also own clubs in the SA20 and ILT20 leagues in South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, respectively, both of which will host finals on February 11 and 12.
The Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals owners, along with Adani Group and Capri Global, purchased the five franchises for a total of INR 4669.99 crore (about USD 572.78 million). The largest contract ever negotiated in women’s cricket, according to this.
