Patna, Jan 31: In a recently surfaced video from a police station, a girl, who has been a resident of the Women’s Remand Home in the city’s Gai Ghat area in the capital, claims that the superintendent Vandana Gupta would send girls with unknown people from outside the home. Apparently, the superintendent would send the girls with promises of an improved life. Sounds of messages sent over wireless can be clearly heard in the said video, proving that the girl is being interrogated in a police station.
In the two and a half minute-long-video, she has claimed the girls living there are physically and mentally abused. She further alleged that beautiful girls are sent outside the remand home with unknown men secretly with promises of a better life. Often there is a movement of outsiders in the remand home premises, the girl has affirmed. She further added that the girls that do not listen to what the Superintendent wants them to do are often declared unstable and mentally ill.
The girl, scared to her bones, claimed in the video that the home is the best place for anyone who wants to die. She said, ‘I am speaking against her, if I go back, she will kill me. People are killed there.’ She further claimed that a girl named Haseena was hung to death there. ‘Haseena did not commit suicide. She was killed. Haseena wanted to live her life,’ she added.
The girl said that several girls have lived there for 10 years. Apparently, the girls in the remand home are told that even though the law sent them there, they can leave only when Vandana Gupta allows them to. She said, ‘There were two girls, one of whom was named Mary. She had a small child and was sick but was not taken for treatment.’ Gupta had apparently asked Rs 4 thousand from her. When Mary could not pay, she was not treated. She had stopped eating food for 10 days after which she died.
The terrified girl further confessed in the video that such an act had happened to her as well. Many people come, whom girls do not recognize. Beautiful girls sent to the home are a favourite of Vandana Gupta. These girls are often sent outside.
The girl urged that she wanted to lead her life and wanted to support girls there. Around 200 girls are there because they were lost while another 300 girls are there due to love marriage while some other girls have been kept in a mental asylum.
Patna SSP Manavjit Singh Dhillon on Monday stated that a team of Nagrik Sanyojak Manch had come to see him on Sunday. It was through him that this matter came to the fore. From there the girl was sent to the women’s police station where the girl recorded her statement. Based on this, the police have started an investigation into the case. Dhillon said that if the allegations made by the girl are found true in the investigation, then an FIR will be registered in this case and legal action will be taken after identifying the culprits.
