New Delhi, Sept 29: After receiving President Droupadi Murmu’s approval, the Women’s Reservation Bill that the Parliament passed last week became law.

The Rajya Sabha unanimously passed the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhniyam,’ a bill that grants 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, making it the inaugural bill to be approved in the new Parliament building.

On the move to pass the legislation, 454 members voted in favour of it, while two members opposed it, leading to the passing of the Bill on September 20.

Separate clauses of the draft legislation were also put to a vote, and the amendments proposed by the opposition members were rejected.

The Rajya Sabha unanimously passed Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam on September 21.

Following the historic passage of the Bill in Parliament, women members of both Houses of Parliament, including PT Usha and Union Ministers Meenakshi Lekhi and Smriti Irani, were beaming as they gave Prime Minister Narendra Modi a bouquet.
