New Delhi, Sept 19: The new Women’s Reservation Bill was presented by the Narendra Modi government on Tuesday in the Lok Sabha of the brand-new Parliament building.

The bill was presented during the inaugural Lok Sabha meeting held in the new Parliament building by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

Arjun Ram Meghwal stated that upon the enactment of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, the Lok Sabha’s women’s representation will surge to 181 seats.

Tomorrow, September 20, the House will discuss whether to pass the Bill. According to official sources, the Bill will be discussed in the Rajya Sabha on September 21.

As the 128th Constitutional Amendment Bill, Union law minister introduced the Women Reservation Bill, which aims to provide a 33 percent quota for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures.

The Lower House addressed this as its first agenda for the day in the new Parliament building.

The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ would ensure that more women are elected to Parliament and the state legislative assemblies, Prime Minister Modi stated earlier in his speech to the Lok Sabha at the new Parliament building.

“Discussion on Women’s Reservation Bill happened for a long time. During Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s regime Women’s Reservation Bill was introduced several times but there was not enough majority to pass the Bill, and because of this this dream remained incomplete. Today, God has given me the opportunity to take this forward…Our government is bringing a new Bill today on Women’s participation in both Houses…” PM Modi said.
