Earlier, batting first, India were bowled out for 134 runs in 36.2 overs by England bowlers, who rose to the occasion wonderfully in a crucial match for them at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui during the ongoing Women’s World Cup.
Charlotte Dean showed a brilliant performance taking four wickets to unsettle the Indian batting order, while pacer Anya Shrubsole got two. Kate Cross and Sophie Ecclestone each took one wicket.
Only Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, and Jhulan Goswami stood out for India against England’s tight bowling assault. India lost half their team in the first 17 overs as England skipper Heather Knight put them in to bat first. India lost two early wickets to Shrubsole, Yastika Bhatia and skipper Mithali Raj, followed by Deepti Sharma’s tragic run-out for a duck to a stunning throw from Kate.
Charlotte then stunned the batting side by taking two wickets in a single over, dismissing Harmanpreet Kaur and Sneh Rana in the space of three balls. Smriti Mandhana was also dismissed for 35 runs, while Pooja Vastrakar was also dismissed as India was all out quickly.
