Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh remained undeterred by internal rumblings within the state BJP following disappointing results in the recent Lok Sabha elections. On Wednesday, he convened a crucial meeting with a group of 30 ministers tasked specifically with strategizing for the upcoming bypolls in 10 assembly constituencies across the state.
The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow, excluded his two deputy chief ministers, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, who are not members of the designated ‘Group of 30’ entrusted with the responsibility of securing victories in the bypolls.
In light of recent critiques within the party, particularly from Maurya who indirectly criticized his own government during a BJP state executive committee meeting in Lucknow, Adityanath expressed confidence in the party’s prospects. He emphasized the importance of fielding candidates with impeccable reputations and boosting the morale of grassroots workers.
The agenda also addressed the ongoing floods affecting over 700 villages across 17 districts in the state, underscoring the government’s multifaceted challenges.
The Chief Minister referenced the BJP’s successful capture of Azamgarh and Rampur Lok Sabha seats during the 2022 bypolls, signaling optimism for similar triumphs in 2024.
Ministers Suresh Khanna and Nitin Agarwal, in charge of the Sisamau assembly constituency in Kanpur, echoed Adityanath’s confidence in securing victories across all 10 assembly seats. They highlighted the Chief Minister’s directive to monitor constituencies regularly and address local issues promptly.
Reflecting on the internal party dynamics, Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh emphasized the symbiotic relationship between party organization and governance, dismissing speculations of discord.
The 10 assembly seats up for bypolls include significant constituencies such as Katehri, Karhal, Milkipur, Meerapur, Ghaziabad, Majhwa, Khair, Phoolpur, Kundarki, and Sisamau. These elections are crucial as they will reshape the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh, currently dominated by the Samajwadi Party and BJP.
As preparations intensify, the BJP faces a pivotal test to regain lost ground and reaffirm its position in the state’s political arena.
