Jamshedpur, Sept 24: The 30-year-old young doctor who allegedly tried to commit suicide by shooting himself at his residence on Thursday succumbed to gun-shot injuries during the course of treatment at the critical care unit ( CCU) of Tata Main Hospital here early this morning.
The victim-Amit Kumar Singh, a resident of S-Type in Adityapur was admitted to the hospital in critical condition yesterday.
According to Rajendra Prasad, the officer-in-charge of Adityapur police station who is probing into the case the injured doctor died around 6 am.
” We are probing into the case from various angles, ” said the senior cop adding that they were trying to determine whether it is a case of suicide or murder.
Amit, a junior resident in the medicine department of MGM Medical College and Hospital, had used a licenced pistol of his brother to shoot himself.
Police have recovered the pistol which will be sent for examination at the Forensic Science Laboratory ( FSL) in Ranchi.
The body was sent to MGM Hospital for post-mortem.
The doctor had sustained bullet injuries below his right earlobe.
Members of the Jamshedpur chapter of the Indian Medical Association ( IMA) condoled the death.
“The death is a big loss to doctors fraternity and IMA Jamshedpur chapter in particular, ” said Dr. Mritunjay Singh, former secretary of IMA.
Dr Amit was about to get married in November. Family sources said his ring ceremony took place recently.
