Jamshedpur, July 7: A gang of five armed men had abducted a youth at gunpoint from RIT Mode under the Adityapur thana area on Thursday afternoon but their attempt failed after the fuel of the car the victim was being taken away exhausted on the way.
The abductors, some of whom were engaged in digital marketing business had demanded a ransom of Rs 6 lakhs from the victim’s family after the car stopped due to the exhaustion of petrol.
Following the ransom call, the anxious family members informed Adityapur police which swung into action and recovered the victim by tracking his location under the adjoining Gamharia thana area late in the night.
Though the police succeeded to recover the victim identified as Sumit Raj Patel, those who had abducted him managed to escape leaving the car abandoned.
Sumit, who carries out a business of digital marketing in the steel city has alleged a Patna-based youth known as Sudarshan Sarraf to have conspired the kidnapping.
According to police, Sumit would do flourishing business in digital marketing, something Sarraf had an eye on. As Sarraf would also do the same business and was known to Sumit, he asked the victim to expand the business further while pledging his support for it.
After getting consent from the victim, a meeting was fixed near the RIT Mode in Adityapur on Thursday afternoon. From the meeting place, Sarraf and four others had abducted Sumit in a car they had come there in. Incidentally, the car’s fuel was exhausted near Arka Jain College on Tata-Kandra road in Gamharia – about 12 km away from the RIT Mode.
The abductors had subsequently taken the victim to a nearby forest stretch from where they had called Sumit’s parents to pay Rs 6 lakhs for his release.
When the victim was in the clutch of the abductors, he was allegedly assaulted with pistol butts a number of times resulting in injuries to several portions of his body.
Adityapur OC Rajan Kumar said they have registered a case of kidnapping against five persons on the complaint lodged by Sumit and are trying to arrest the accused.
