New Delhi, July 24: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, took a shot at the Centre on Sunday over the Agnipath military recruitment programme, saying that it put the nation’s security and the future of the young people in jeopardy.

“60 soldiers retire every year, out of which only 3,000 will get government jobs, he wrote on twitter.

“What will be the future of thousands of ‘Agniveers’ retiring after 4-year contracts,” he questioned.

“With this new experiment of the Prime Minister’s laboratory, both the security of the country and the future of the youth are in danger,” he added.

After the unveiling of the programme, which aims to hire young people between the ages of 17 and a half and 21 for only four years with a provision to retain 25% of them for 15 more years, protests were seen in several parts of the nation.

The maximum age has been raised to 23 years old for 2022.
