Daltonganj, May 23: 12 jawans of 134 battalion of CRPF and officials on Monday donated one unit of blood each.

One sample of donated blood was found to be AB negative, rare but much in demand, according to Palamu Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar. “Today our blood bank had only 97 units of blood but with these 12 units, we have crossed 100,” he said.

He said he had shot off a letter of request to the Commandant CRPF to help with blood donation last week.

Dr Anil Kumar said he and his team are very grateful to the elite force CRPF that 12 of their jawans and officials lined up for the blood donation today.

He further said that he has sent a similar letter of request to the Sergeant Major of Palamu to motivate his hundreds of cops to donate blood.

Palamu SP Chandan Kumar Sinha has been a frequent blood donor who also motivates others to follow the suit.

The civil surgeon said this Monday morning a youth came pressing the blood bank personnel to give one unit of blood for his grandfather. He was aggressive and reluctant not to replace the blood which he wanted to have. He was controlled with one unit of blood on the assurance that he would replenish it.

“Some people threaten to shoot us, blow up the blood bank, and abuse our personnel when asked to offer blood for blood,” he said.

“They think it to be their insult when we ask for a replacement for the blood. This ‘constipation of thought’ regarding blood has to be changed and this can only be possible if right from school days down to the college, students are told about the goodness of the blood donation and why its replacement is essential to keep the delivery of blood to the needy unhindered,” the civil surgeon added.
