Agartala, June 26: A fight between supporters of the Congress and the BJP on Sunday in front of the Congress Bhavan in Agartala resulted in at least 19 injuries, including those of Tripura PCC head Birajit Sinha.

After the results of the by-elections for four assembly seats were announced, the crowd began to fight, and police used tear gas to break it up. Three seats went to the BJP, and one to Congress. After the altercation, the entire Post Office Chowmuhani neighbourhood, where Congress Bhavan is located, appeared desolate.

Around 1 pm, Congress supporters brought Sudip Roy Barman, the victor in the Agartala assembly seat, back to Congress Bhavan.

He claimed that BJP supporters led by a senior of the Yuva Morcha pelted the structure with bricks and destroyed a number of motorcycles that were parked in front of it. Saha said that the cops were silent during the attack.

On the other hand, Sushanta Chowdhury, the minister of information and cultural affairs, claimed that the Congress supporters were enraged at an earlier event in which they had thrown bricks at Shilpi Sen, a BJP councillor for the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).
