Ranchi, Feb. 7: 19 months after threat e-mails were sent to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the Jharkhand Police have been unable to solve this high-profile case. The department of police comes under chief minister Hemant Soren who is Z plus protectee.
The investigation was handed over to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand Police. There is not much clue except the fact that the IP address used to commit the crime was located in Germany and Switzerland.
On being contacted, DIG of CID Sunil Bhaskar claimed that investigation was going on. What made the CID boss displeased when asked whether the CID got any update and correspondence from Interpol.
“Sharing such nitty-gritty will derail the investigation. Mind it, I am not supposed to reveal anything about the investigation,” Bhaskar said.
According to sources, the CID during the course of the investigation had approached the Interpol Police through the Union ministry of Home of Affairs for necessary support. The CID had requested Interpol to provide details of the said IP addresses. Except for that communication with Interpol, the CID has not made any headway, sources said.
In July 2020, an unknown sender had sent a number of threat e-mails to the chief minister on different occasions. The sender threatened to kill him if he didn’t mend his ways.
The office of CM had discovered the first such threat e-mail on July 8. In this matter, the FIR was lodged on July 13 at Cyber Police station and a special team was constituted to investigate the case.
The sender had used the mail ID businessman@tuta.io to send threat mails to CM. The sender was obviously intimidating the chief minister as he is stated to have used to term ‘capital punishment.’ The documents were also said to be attached to those e-mails.
