New Delhi, Dec.2: Health Ministry on Thursday confirmed that two cases of the newly found and dreaded variant of COVID-19, ‘Omicron’ have been detected in India.
Both the cases have been reported in Karnataka with the patients being two men aged 66 and 46. Out of these two cases, one traveller had reached Bengaluru on November 11 and another on November 20. The ministry added that their identities will not be disclosed for now to protect their privacy.
All people who came in contact with the two patients have been traced and are being tested, said health ministry’s joint secretary Lav Agarwal during a press briefing.
“There’s no need to be concerned about the Omicron finding, but it is critical to be aware. Avoid gatherings, and behave in a Coivd-appropriate manner,” Agarwal stated.
“No severe symptoms of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 reported so far. All Omicron related cases are found to have mild symptoms so far…In all such cases in the country and across the world so far, no severe symptom has been noted. WHO has said that its emerging evidence is being studied,” he added.

Early indicators show the Omicron may be far more contagious than prior versions, although there has been no proof that the strain is any more lethal.
