Srinagar: In a pre-dawn operation, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir neutralized two terrorists in the Halkan Gali area of Anantnag district. The encounter began when security personnel launched an anti-terrorist operation in response to intelligence reports. Earlier in the day, a similar encounter broke out in Srinagar’s Khaynar area during a joint cordon and search operation by police and security forces.
This wave of anti-terrorist actions follows a targeted attack on two migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh in Budgam, marking the fourth such attack on migrants in Kashmir in the past two weeks. On October 20, a deadly assault in Ganderbal district saw seven casualties, including a local doctor and two workers from Bihar, who were shot dead at a tunnel construction site.
National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, responding to the recent surge in violence, raised concerns that these attacks might be intended to destabilize the newly formed government under his son, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He has called for an independent investigation into the growing number of terror attacks in the valley.
