Ranchi: Ranchi Police seized 200 litres of country-made liquor during a large-scale drive in Shivaji Nagar under Airport police station limits on Thursday, though two smugglers managed to escape from the spot.
Two Smugglers Escape, Case Registered
According to police, the absconding men have been identified as Bablu Sao and Amit Sahu, both residents of Haratad. The liquor had reportedly been stockpiled for sale during Durga Puja. Excise Department ACP Umashankar said a case has been registered against the fugitives and that they will be arrested soon. He said the objective of the drive was to free the city of country liquor sales.
Part of a Continuing Crackdown
Ranchi Police have been running a continuous campaign against country liquor. A few days earlier, Sukhdev Nagar police had arrested a youth named Akshay Anil for illegally selling liquor behind a Durga Puja pandal on Devi Mandap Road near Pisca Mod, recovering 52 bottles of foreign liquor from him.
