Daltonganj, May 9: A 22-year-old danseuse identified as Kalawati Pawley of Chhattisgarh was found dead by hanging at her rented room at Nawadih under Palamu’s Bishrampur police station on Monday morning.
A police officer of the Bishrampur police station S N Singh said Kalawati was found hanging with her dupatta. Her tongue had protruded; however, her toes were quite near the floor.
No suicide note has been found on the spot. Police were interrogating Sumit and Khushbu when this story was filed.
The deceased’s husband Sumit Kumar did not live with her. He lives around 2 kilometres away from Kalawati’s rented room. The police officer said Sumit lived elsewhere as Kalawati had a room partner named Khushbu Kumari, who is also a danseuse from Chhattisgarh.
The dancers were here for orchestra shows.
Asked if Kalawati had any phone conversation with her husband last night, the police officer said she had her last conversation with Sumit around 10 pm last night.
Her room partner Khushbu is learnt to have told the Bishrampur police that Kalawati looked tense when Sumit told her he would not be spending the night with her.
On Monday morning, Khushbu found her hanging and informed Sumit about her death. Sumit gave this information to civil society activist Mishra Ji who then informed the Bishrampur police.
Meanwhile, Kalawati’s post mortem would be done today in MMCH Daltonganj.
