Dhanbad, March 24: The second round of admission for 69 vacant MBBS seats of the state as well as all India quotas in five medical colleges of the state government, began on Thursday.
Jharkhand has a total of 450 MBBS seats in its five institutions. After the first-round admission of the 2021-22 MBBS batch, which concluded on February 7, a total of 69 seats including state and All India quotas are vacant.
Director of Medical Education of Jharkhand government Dr Arun Kumar said that choice filling of students has been completed and admission will start today.
Principals of Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka, Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Palamu, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad and Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribagh said that they have received the list of second-round admission. However, Mahatma Gandhi Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur had not received the list till 12 noon.
At Dumka medical college after the first round, 16 seats (9 of state, 5 of national quotas and one of central government nominee) are still vacant.
Principal Dr Arun Kumar said that the names of all candidates including one of the central government nominees have come and admission will start today.
Dr Shailendra Kumar, Principal of MMCH Palamu said his institution has 10 vacant seats but names have come for admission of 19 students. “It seems some admitted students have been upgraded into other institutions. So, a list of 19 has come,” he said.
At SNMMCH Dhanbad, 10 seats (9 state quota and 1 all India quota) are vacant after first round admission. Dr Ganesh Kumar, admission in-charge, said that the list has come and all 50 MBBS seats are likely to be filled up by March 26.
In Hazaribagh Medical College, 14 seats (10 state and 4 all India quota) out of 100 MBBS seats are vacant. Principal Dr SK Singh said he has received the names and the admission process has started.
At MGMMCH Jamshedpur, a total of 20 seats are vacant but Principal Dr KN Singh said it is too early to say about vacant seats as 27 students including 8 all India quota are coming for admission while 17 students, who have already taken admission, are leaving.
Director of Medical Education of Jharkhand government Dr Arun Kumar, when asked about the reason behind vacant seats after the first round admission, said that due to the upgradation of selected students in preferred institutions, they leave and seats are left vacant.
