Imphal: An intense search operation is underway in Manipur’s Jiribam after three children and three women went missing following an encounter between security forces and suspected Kuki insurgents. The encounter, which left 10 militants dead, took place near Manipur’s border with Assam.
The Manipur Police, in a press conference held in Imphal, stated that the slain insurgents had been heavily armed, capable of creating significant unrest in the area. “Security forces, including the Assam Rifles, Border Security Force, and Central Reserve Police Force, are conducting search operations for the missing individuals. The forces will respond if any further attacks occur,” a senior Manipur Police official said.
The police also reported that out of 13 people initially reported missing from Jiribam, two senior citizens from the Meitei community were found dead inside a structure allegedly set ablaze by militants. Five others have been located, while the search continues for the remaining six.
