Daltonganj, June 14: 31 MBBS students of the Medinirai Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) in Daltonganj are in a great dilemma. These MBBS students are in a no-win situation.
These 31 MBBS students are the ones who couldn’t pass their first-year MBBS examination conducted by Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU).
Some of them failed in one subject, some in two subjects and some in all three subjects.
The first-year MBBS examination consists of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry subjects.
Their dilemma is that they still nurse hope of passing the examination believing wrong totalling, their answer not properly checked and marked etc but at the same time not taking any risk or chance they have also filled out the examination form for the supplementary examination of the first year MBBS examination.
MMCH Principal Dr Kamender Prasad said today, “We are in close contact with the controller of the NP University. First, there was a plan for overseeing the answer books of the 31 failed MBBS students here locally at this medical college.”
He further said, “The idea of overseeing the answer books locally at this medical college was abandoned following a change of guard in the university at the VC level. The interim VC TK Shandilya asked for overseeing the answer books outside this college and in Ranchi it was overseen by the subject concerned teachers.”
“We have no clue till date about the outcome of the exercise in Ranchi. We wait for the final version of it,” added Dr Prasad.
Another senior faculty of the MMCH, refusing to be identified, said, “Our MBBS students are in a fix. They are not sure of what is going to happen. All the 31 MBBS students have filled the form for the supplementary examination but everyone silently wishes to not have the misfortune of taking the supplementary examination which is just a pipe dream.”
Sources said the bulk complaint about wrong totalling, answers left unexamined etc could not stand as barring just one or two cases where a minor error in totalling was discovered and similarly, a minuscule portion of the answer written was found unchecked and unmarked but these two follies when rectified could not even push any of the 31 failed MBBS students to pass except just one MBBS student who by the virtue of the cumulative pass marks of 50 per cent got out of the list of the failed MBBS students.
The examination department of the NPU is to obtain the final nod in declaring the outcome of overseeing the answer books in Ranchi from the VC in this regard.
However, one question arises. If even in just one or two cases totalling was found to be wrong then it is not desirable anyway.
Again, even some minuscule written answers remained unchecked and unmarked then also it is painful and the examiner is accountable for such oversight.
Sources said the NPU should ask its examiners to be careful and cautious.
