New Delhi: In a concerning turn of events, 32 Air India flights received bomb threats on Tuesday, marking the latest in a string of hoax alerts issued to commercial airlines and establishments nationwide. This incident follows bomb threats issued a day earlier to seven flights to and from Kolkata, which were also determined to be hoaxes.
In response to the rising number of threat calls, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has stepped up security across the country. Over the last two weeks, security agencies have reported more than 400 hoax calls, raising alarm over passenger safety and national security. The NIA’s cyber wing has launched an in-depth investigation into these foreign-origin threat calls, aiming to analyze their motives and validate their authenticity.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued an advisory to social media platforms, urging them to comply with IT Rules and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) by removing bomb threat posts “promptly” or risk liability under these provisions.
