New Delhi, Oct 12: At least four passengers were killed late on Wednesday night when the Delhi-Kamakhya North East Express train derailed in Buxar, Bihar. A Railway Police Force official stated that in the vicinity of Raghunathpur station, six train coaches derailed, resulting in 70 additional individuals sustaining injuries.
The Railways, on Thursday, declared an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the family members of the deceased in the train derailment, and Rs 50,000 for the injured individuals. In parallel, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also pledged a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the train accident.
Visuals showed that the train derailed, causing at least two AC III Tier coaches to collapse over and four additional coaches to jump the tracks.
In the aftermath of the accident, local people promptly came to the aid of the passengers, assisting them in exiting the derailed coaches. Furthermore, in response to the accident report, a number of police officers and ambulances arrived at the scene.
On Thursday morning, visuals depicted ongoing efforts to clear the derailed train from the railway tracks.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw conveyed his sympathies for the lives lost and informed that the evacuation and rescue operations had been successfully concluded, with all coaches being inspected. Additionally, the minister mentioned that a thorough investigation would be carried out to determine the underlying cause of the train derailment.
