Mumbai, Aug 29: Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd., announced on Monday that the company would invest 2 lakh crore in the implementation of fifth-generation (5G) telephony, which would begin in major cities by Diwali.
In order to provide ultra-high speed internet, Jio, the country’s largest telecom provider, has deployed a standalone 5G stack rather than updating the current 4G network, he stated at Reliance Industries’ 45th Annual General Meeting.
Jio will roll out 5G services by Diwali in the major metropolises of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, he announced, adding that this will be followed by a phased expansion to other cities and towns to serve the all of India in 18 months by December 2023.
Jio’s ambitious 5G rollout plan will be the fastest in the world, he further said.
