Dhanbad, Oct 5: For the first time 61 postgraduate (PG) students of Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) Ranchi and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur are set to be sent on a three-month mandatory deputation in 22 districts under the District Residency Programme.
Special Secretary (Health) Alok Trivedi has issued a notification and the list of PG students of both institutions in this regard. As per the notification, the selected PG students have to join on deputation from October 9.
Dr SK Singh, Director of the Medical Education wing of the state health department, said that on the directive of the National Medical Commission (NMC), a District Residency Programme has been launched so that during their study PG students can get experience of working in the field.
“This is not new. During our time we were also sent in a block for gaining experience in rural areas. This three-month deputation would of course help the students to gain experience,” said Dr Singh.
Sources said the health department would manage the boarding arrangement for students at their deployment place.
