Dhanbad, Sept 22: 66 years old SLLNT Women’s College Dhanbad has opened its gate for men to study foreign languages courses. The premier women’s college of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) set up in 1955, has started three foreign languages certificate and diploma courses including French, German and Spanish from 2021-22  academic session.

SSLNT Women’s College’s principal Prof. Sharmila Rani on Wednesday said that for the first time three foreign languages courses have been launched on Add-on Course basis from the current session in the institution. Existing students can also take admission in these courses while continuing their regular course of graduation and post-graduation. 50  seats have been fixed for diplomas in each language. “Classes of foreign languages will be held in the morning ( 6.30 am to 9.30) so that classes of girls in general courses are not disturbed. Timings have been fixed keeping office timing of working men and women in mind,” added the principal.

This is the second time a constituent unit of BBMKU has started courses in foreign languages. Three years ago the English post-graduation (PG) department of P K Roy Memorial College had started the language course but the dream project died prematurely. “ Due to Corona, our project had to be stopped. The department had even lined up lecturers from Kolkata to take classes in Dhanbad,” said Prof. Sudhanshu Shekhar Choudhary, HoD of the English Department. However, sources in the college said that owing to the poor response of students towards foreign languages courses,  the department had to defer the plan for the time being.
