New Delhi, June 1: India bagged the bronze medal in the Hockey Asia Cup on Wednesday, 1 June in Jakarta’s GBK Sports Complex Hockey Stadium.
India took the lead early in the first quarter. Japan had seven penalty corners to India’s two, although India had an 11-10 advantage in circle penetration. India was reduced to ten men in the final minute of the match, but they held on to earn their second Asia Cup bronze medal.
On Wednesday, India, which was competing for a bronze medal, scored in the first quarter to grab the lead. India’s defence remained strong once the team went up a goal early in the game to fend off any prospective attacks by their Japanese opponents. This was in stark contrast to their previous game against Korea, in which they scored eight goals. On the day, Japan was slow and had long periods of possession, but they were unable to break through the defence.
