Jamshedpur, June 2: Anish Kumar Sinha, a 14-year-old boxer from Kashidih in steel city has bagged the silver medal at the Sub-Junior Boys and Girls Boxing Championship, 2022, hosted by the Boxing Federation of India during May 20-26 at Bellary in Karnataka.

Anish was trained at the Kashidih Community Centre run by the Urban Services department of Tata Steel Foundation.

The young boy began his journey in boxing in 2018, soon after his parents passed away. He says: “It was difficult in the beginning, especially being bullied and told by everyone that I will not be able to do anything in life.”

However, Anish turned the wheel for himself and went on to prove that he was meant for bigger feats in life. This achievement has emerged as evidence of his grit and dedication.

His coach Bablu Kumar Yadav thanked Anish’s principal Satinder Singh at the Thakur Pyare Singh High School, Kashidih, for the enormous support received from the school, especially with documentation and flexible timings that enabled Anish to report to the centre on time.

Anish intends to serve the Indian Army once he comes of age and spoke of his journey and aspirations.

He said: “I have made it to the national camp this year and will be playing under-14 after my training. I want to serve my country, my motherland and remain dauntless.”

Anish currently is a student of class nine and said that his family has been extremely supportive of his efforts although initially, he had to convince them to allow him to play.

The young pugilist signed off by saying: “I channelled all my anger through boxing, all my feelings of hurt, and that made all the difference.”

The urban services department of the Foundation trains around 750 children in various sporting fields annually.
