New Delhi, June 2: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra police apprehended a guy in Kishtwar of Jammu, on Thursday for his alleged ties to Junaid Mohammed, who is accused of recruiting terrorists for the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Notably, Junaid Mohammed, (28) was arrested by the ATS on May 24 in Pune’s Dapodi neighbourhood and remanded in the agency’s custody till June 3. Officials said he used social media channels to communicate with active members of the Pakistan-based LeT terror network.

“A team of the Maharashtra ATS has been in Jammu and Kashmir since the last few days for investigation about the links of a 28-year-old Junaid Mohammed. While investigating the links in the case, the ATS team received information about a man, who was in touch with Junaid via social media and other platforms,” police said.

“Accordingly, the state ATS team went to Kishtwar and nabbed the accused,” they added.

According to the official, Junaid Mohammed was tasked with recruiting new members for the LeT from other places, and as part of his mandate, he attempted to bring fresh recruits to Jammu and Kashmir to train them to carry out terror actions in the state. His handlers would reward him with money if he completed the task. During his interrogation, it was discovered that the terror suspect had received Rs 10,000 from a bank account in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to him, the ATS’s Kalachowky section had begun an investigation into four individuals, including Junaid, in connection with recruiting new recruits for the LeT and transporting them to Jammu and Kashmir for training and terror activities, based on the particular information.
