“I set out as a little girl on the journey to wear the India blues as representing your country is the highest honour. The journey was full of highs and some lows. Each event taught me something unique and the last 23 years have been the most fulfilling, challenging and enjoyable years of my life,” she said.

With this her glittering career comes to an end that began in 1999 when she made her debut for India. Mithali has represented India in 12 Tests, 232 One Day Internationals, and 89 Twenty20 Internationals during the course of her 23-year career.

She retired from T20Is in September 2019, however she continued to play ODIs and Tests.

Notably, Mithali Raj is the all-time leading run scorer in women’s international cricket and is regarded as one of the most influential figures in the development of the sport in India.

She is the only female cricketer to score 7,000 runs in one-day internationals. She has 7,805 runs at an average of 50.68 in 232 ODIs, including 7 hundreds. Her 64 fifties are the most in the ODIs.
