Jamshedpur, June 14: Over two lakh residents of Mango were inconvenienced by blackouts which continued on Sunday and Monday nights due to supply restrictions.

The localities that were affected were Dimna Road, Old Purulia Road, Zakirnagar, Daiguttu, Kumar Basti, Munshi Mohalla, Teacher’s Colony and Post Office Road.

The blackouts, which started from 10 pm and continued till the wee hours on both days, compelled residents of several apartments that do not have generator facilities to spend sleepless nights in muggy conditions.

The Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) office was swamped with phone calls enquiring the reason behind the power cut.

But, JBVNL officials failed to attend the phone calls.

For Sumit Singh, a resident of Dimna Road, spending two nights without AC and fan was nothing short of a nightmare.

“We couldn’t sleep properly for two consecutive nights. We do not have a generator facility in our flat,” said Singh, who resides in Madhusudan Apartments.

Homemaker Anamika Sarkar, a resident of Daiguttu, said the condition was insufferable. “Even our inverter did not work due to prolonged power cuts. Strangely, the state government has implemented a hike in power tariff, but it is not able to provide us quality power,” she complained.

Residents were also aggrieved over the fact that none of the local political party leaders including the MLA seems concerned over the impending power crisis.

According to local residents power supply during the day had also been erratic for the last few days.

“Of late we are facing the problem of frequent power cuts. We have no clue why,” said Ashish Ojha,  a resident of a flat near the Blue Bells School in Mango.

A JBVNL official Tushar Ambar Kashyap said supply restrictions from the state load despatch centre ( SLDC) in Ranchi coupled with technical snags have led to such a power crisis.

“The power crisis is temporary,” he said.

Residents of several other JBVNL services areas including Jugsalai, Parsudih, Sundernagar and Adityapur complained of erratic power supply during the last two days.
