Ranchi: Rain that fell on Friday afternoon overwhelmed the city’s drainage system, leaving knee-deep water in several areas of Ranchi and forcing pedestrians to wade through flooded roads.

Drain Water Spills onto Roads

Dirty water from overflowing drains flowed onto the streets, causing considerable trouble for passersby. The situation was worse on the road in front of Lalpur police station, where drain water flowing across the road created a foul stench that added to people’s discomfort.

Waterlogging Reported at Multiple Spots

Waterlogging was reported at several locations, including Main Road, Karbala Chowk, Karmatoli Chowk, Marwari College Road and Bada Talab Road, disrupting movement for commuters. Within about an hour of rain, the city’s roads were submerged, and in many areas drain water spread across the carriageway. The downpour exposed the Municipal Corporation’s lack of preparedness in cleaning and drainage.
