New Delhi, June 14: P V Sindhu, two-time Olympic medalist, was eliminated in the first round of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 event on Tuesday after losing in straight games to China’s He Bing Jiao.

Sindhu, the seventh seed, was defeated by Bing Jiao in the women’s singles 14-21 18-21. Sindhu has won two Super 300 championships this season, the Syed Modi International and the Swiss Open, and is a past world champion. Bing Jiao, the world No. 9 who defeated Sindhu in the Badminton Asia Championship, now has a 10-8 head-to-head record against the Indian.

Sindhu’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next month have been hampered by her loss at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno.

B Sai Praneeth, who lost 16-21 19-21 against Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark in the men’s singles, was also eliminated.

Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto, a mixed doubles team, suffered a same fate in the first round, falling 14-21 11-21 to Chang Tak Ching and NG Wing Yung Hong of Hong Kong in just 32 minutes. The Indian was slow off the blocks in the Sindhu vs Bing Jiao match, as the Chinese didn’t allow her gain a grip, blazing to a 9-2 lead before extending it to 11-4 at halftime.

Sindhu came out swinging after the break, scoring four straight points to cut the lead to 8-11. The Chinese, on the other hand, did not allow Sindhu to control the match and comfortably won the first game. Sindhu was anticipated to come out firing in the second game after trailing, but it was Bing Jiao who seized an early 5-1 lead.

Sindhu kept the game close throughout the second set, despite the Chinese having a little advantage. However, Bing Jiao eventually won the match for her.
