Pool of 20 teachers monitor new Yoga course at SNMMCH Dhanbad

Dhanbad, June 14: Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) has made a pool of 20 faculty members for monitoring the New Yoga course introduced by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the 1st MBBS professional course.

Yoga course committee head Dr Krishna Kumari, HoD physiology, said two teachers have been assigned the task to monitor the course per day which will continue till International Yoga Day on June 21.

A senior teacher of SNMMCH said that as per National Medical Council (NMC), yoga class is mandatory for 1st MBBS professional students and nominated faculty members will take attendance of the students per day and fill up the logbook of’ the foundation course. The feedback of the class would be preserved for NMC.

“After taking the class by instructor and trainers, teachers would take attendance and fill up the log book,” the teacher said.

Dr Phani Bhushan Singh, Assistant Professor (physiology) and Dr Ravi Shankar, Assistant Professor (pathology)  monitored the course on the first day (June 12) and Dr Rishabh Kumar Rana, Assistant Professor (PSM), Dr Shilpi, senior resident (Psychiatric) supervised the next day.

Principal Dr Jyoti Ranjan Prasad, superintendent Dr AK Barnwal and head of the programme committee Dr Krishna Kumari, head of the department of physiology and other senior teachers launched the new course of NMC in the institution on June 12.

While launching the course, the principal and superintendent pointed out the relevance of yoga in the present scenario of life to be an important element which gives relief from mental stress.

“Mental tension is an emerging root cause of maximum diseases. There is a treatment system for many diseases in Yoga and Ayurveda which is not available in other modern methods. Keeping this in view, Yoga has been added to the curriculum,” said Dr Krishna Kumari.

The teachers who will be monitoring the course on June 14 and after include Dr Akash Chandra, Dr Veenit Tigga, Dr Rajkumar Prasad, Dr CS Suman, Dr Shashi Bala Nag, Dr Mona Kumari, Dr Raj Kumar Prasad, Dr Saritha Choudhary, Dr Rishabh Kumar Rana, Dr Shakti Prakash Gavaskar, Dr Phani Bhushan Singh, Dr Ravi Bhushan and members of yoga committee.
