ICC Women’s ODI Rankings: Mandhana holds on to eighth, Goswami slips to sixth

New Delhi, June 21: In the fresh ICC Women’s ODI rankings released on Tuesday, star opener Smriti Mandhana remained in eighth place, although veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami dropped a spot on the bowler’s list.

Mandhana, who has 411 runs in nine ODIs this year, including a century against the West Indies at the World Cup earlier this year, is the only Indian in the top ten of the batting order, which is led by Australian Alyssa Hailey and England’s Natalie Sciver. Goswami, on the other hand, fell from fifth to sixth place in the bowling rankings. This year, the 39-year-old has appeared in nine One-Day Internationals and has taken 12 wickets.

After a fantastic performance in South Africa’s ODI series sweep against Ireland, Goswami lost her spot to Proteas pacer Ayabonga Khaka. Sophie Ecclestone of England and Jen Jonassen of South Africa are still in first and second place among bowlers, respectively. Another Indian, Deepti Sharma, remained in seventh place on the all-rounder list.

On the most recent set of ICC ODI Player Rankings, a couple of South African stars have made huge strides inside the top five. After dominating performances for the Proteas during their recent ODI series sweep over Ireland, the ICC issued new rankings on Tuesday, and glamorous opener Laura Wolvaardt and seasoned quick Ayabonga Khaka were the main winners.

Khaka, meanwhile, made the most impact on the bowler rankings, jumping two places to fifth after a superb series against Ireland.
