Mumbai, July 6: The continuous heavy rain in Mumbai and its suburbs on Wednesday disrupted daily life by generating water logging and traffic jams in many locales. Mumbai and its environs should expect heavy rain through Friday, with the chance of very heavy showers in isolated areas, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to officials, flooding along the city’s railroad tracks and in low-lying areas has impacted several train and bus routes.

Since Monday, Maharashtra has had torrential rains, which have caused certain rivers’ water levels to rise quickly. Raigad, Ratnagiri, and some other districts are expected to see very heavy to extremely high rainfall during the coming days, according to ‘red’ and ‘orange’ alerts from the weather department.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ordered state administration authorities to take the required safeguards to prevent any casualties or property damage.

The Chief Minister also paid a visit to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BCM) disaster control centre. He claimed to have given the authorities instructions to move people away from areas that are prone to landslides in order to prevent fatalities.

He stated that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has multiple teams stationed at different places throughout the state, and that additional personnel will be sent if necessary.
